Abstract
The study evaluates some fishermenʼs perception regarding plastic pollution in Lake Chapala and distinguishes their responses by social group. A survey was conducted on socioeconomic aspects, perceptions on plastic pollution in the lake, and technical knowledge about such pollution. The respondents belonged to the cooperatives of Petatán, La Palma, and Ibarra, in Michoacán. The results showed that fishermen identify the existence of clear plastic pollution; they are aware of this problem, as they are the ones who have the closest relationship with the lake, and although their knowledge is not specialized, they can identify it.
