Abstract
Social vulnerability in the context of climate change was assessed, considering four types of impacts: household-level vulnerability to tropical cyclones; propensity for accidents in fishing activities; household income uncertainty; natural and anthropogenic impacts on fishery resources. The method consisted of a self-assessment workshop and a socioeconomic survey; it was applied in two coastal fishing communities in Sinaloa, Mexico: Mazatlán and Chametla. Mazatlán showed higher vulnerability, primarily influenced by propensity for accidents in fishing activities. It was concluded that the correlation between socio-economic stressors influences local vulnerability.
