Abstract
Two decades ago the topic of local development became the object of growing interest in Europe, visible in the context of the developmental policies set into motion in the 1980’s and 1990’s, or the changes in the economic, geographic literature or on territorial ordering and urbanism. The numerous works on local development topics allowed noticing some “sorts” of local spaces: industrial districts, local productive systems, innovative environments, technopolitan spaces, etc. (Benko and Lipietz, 1992; Courlet and Soulage, 1994; Pecqueur, 1996; Scott, 1988). This allows comparisons and producing recommendations as for industrial policy or territorial ordering. In a deep-crisis context, numerous institutions acquired new knowledge of the local development processes in order to preserve and reinforce the advantages from their knowledge. Hence, it can be said that the local space, for some fifteen years now, has really emerged as a space to intervene looking for development.
