Abstract
The tourism sector generates precarious work. This calls into question the development possibilities of this economy sector and, especially, of tourist areas. Although this issue has already been studied in cases coming from both Europe and the United States, there is little evidence on it in Latin America. This paper reviews the leading literature on the subject, offers a complete overview of the different aspects of the problem, and draws up a proposal for the study of labor conditions in the region’s tourism sector, integrating the concepts used in social sciences.
